"A Little Bit of Gilded Insomnia" #1
(1st in series)
A miniature gilded sleep-deprivation painting by Kira Ayn Varszegi
ACEO
(enlarged to show detail)

Including the pieces in the larger-scale "Insomnia" series and the non-gilded "A Little Bit of Insomnia" ACEO series, these are paintings that I've created during a sleep-deprived state lasting 30+ hours (usually longer.) Falling asleep is currently a challenge for me 1-3 times a week. Transient onset insomnia is a symptom of stress & anxiety disorders, and a side effect of the medication I'm prescribed to control Attention Defecit Disorder. I'm usually physically exhausted but mentally alert during the painting process, but my mental capacities begin to fail and hallucinations are more likely to occur the longer I'm awake. The styles/methods/mediums used in this series will vary depending on my level of alertness. |

The paintings in this series are meticulously surface-gilded with iridescent metal leaf flakes in shades of red. Looks like dichroic glass up close - very neat! |
What's an ATC/ACEO?
Artist trading cards (ATCs) are miniature pieces of art that are traded/sold around the world. The only official rule for ATCs is the size: 2.5" X 3.5." ATCs that are sold rather than traded are called Art Cards Editions or Originals (ACEO). ACEOs are a cost-efficient way to support the arts by collecting mini masterpieces from your favorite artists. They're the same size as a baseball card and can be preserved & displayed in the same way - framed, protected by a hard plastic case, propped on a tiny easel, or organized in a special album (a unique coffee table book.)

These close-up views may be angled to show texture, sparkle, shimmer, iridescence, luminosity, and/or depth. The white background helps me digitally adjust the brightness to more correct levels. Differences in monitor settings might still cause minor viewing discrepancies.

"A Little Bit of Gilded Insomnia" is a series that experiences gradual style/media/technique transitions over time. This may occur as a result of necessity, a revelation, a whim, and/or experimentation with new elements and concepts. Please bid accordingly. |
